I start to follow, but am stopped by Goody’s hand on my shoulder.

“Wait, child. Let us get you a coat,” she says, making her way to a row of hooks holding various outer garments. She pulls down a red one and hands it to me. “There you go, dear. Now we may leave.”

I toss it over my bare shoulders, only now realizing the cold that was lingering in my bones. We step out into the darkness, and Goody slams the door tightly shut behind us. I see the doctor already far ahead – nearly to Elder Vines' house. We start off on the road, our feet unintentionally pacing in perfect marching unison. Dread begins to creep into my gut once more, a threatening feeling like what I had felt at the Elder’s house. I feel it slide into the back of my mind – this thought that I am somehow marching toward my own execution.
